Kanzashi are Japanese hair ornaments folded from tiny squares of habotai silk. Learn how to make your own flower from squares of scrap fabric at Brighton Mini Maker Faire. You can either contribute your creation to a ‘Collaborative Canvas’ – an artwork made up of lots of kanzashi made by all the visitors to the Mini Makers Faire – or take the kanzashi you made home with you in the form of a greetings card (for a small charge of £3 to cover materials).
Emily Wright from Cuttlefishlove Kanzashi will be on hand to teach you how to fold and construct your kanzashi flower. She has been making kanzashi for the last 2 years. You can also buy her handmade kanzashi hair accessories and brooches made from silk at the event.
